I liked the nostalgia, irreverent humor and gentle sarcasm.
It took a while to get used to it, but I'm glad I did.

I laughed more reading this book than I had in the previous 2 months. As a bay boomer (born in 1955) the entire theme of this book resonated with me and although I grew up in NYC (which is not to be confused with Des Moines) I was amazed how many similarities there were between my childhood and Bryson's. In certain respects, this book reminded me of Russell Baker's 'Growing Up' which was equally great. I can't think of anyone who would not enjoy this book.
