What is OverDrive?

OverDrive is digital distributor of eBooks and audiobooks. The NOBLE network contracts with OverDrive to provide residents with secure and legal lending access to these digital materials.

Getting Started: Help from OverDrive

Look for the My Help section under the More Information link in the left column of OverDrive’s site for customized help. My Help provides a step-by-step, easy to follow guided tour for your specific device. This is a highly recommended resource for getting started with both eBooks and audiobooks.

 

Downloadable eBooks
Our eBook collection includes many popular fiction and non-fiction titles, and can be read on many devices including Kindles, Sony Readers, Nooks, iPads, many smartphones, and more.

eBooks FAQ

      • Q: Can I read OverDrive eBooks on my device?
        A: View the complete list of compatible devices.
      • Q:I don’t want to wait for an eBook. Are there any that are always available?
        A: Yes, classics and public domain titles are always available, and don’t count toward your download limit.
      • Q: Am I able to access any non-Noble OverDrive collections?
        A: As a Massachusetts resident you can also access the OverDrive collection available through the Boston Public Library.  You need a valid library card, but you can easily register online for a BPL card which will allow you to download BPL’s audio and eBooks.
      • Q: Can I return my eBooks early?
        A: Yes you can! Kindle: Kindle books may be returned early by logging into your Amazon account and choosing the “Manage My Kindle” link. To the right of each book title there is an “Action” drop down menu. Choose the return option. Learn More.Nook or other ebook reader: If you downloaded the book to your computer and opened it in Adobe Digital Editions to transfer to a Nook or other ebook reader, you return it from Adobe Digital Editions. Learn More. iPad, smartphone or other mobile devices: If you downloaded the book directly to an iPad, smartphone or other mobile device using the OverDrive Media Console app, you can return the book from the app. Learn More.
      • Q: Is there a limit to how many eBooks I can check out?
        A: You may only have 4 items checked out at one time: 4 eBooks OR 4 audiobooks OR any combination of the two formats totaling 4. The only exceptions to this rule are classics and public domain titles, which don’t count towards your limit.
      • Q: I am concerned about eBooks and my privacy. Can you give me some information on this?

Downloadable Audiobooks

Downloadable audiobooks are accessible through OverDrive. Some titles are always available, while others can only be checked out to one person at a time. You can listen to these books on your computer or transfer them to an MP3 player. (Most can be played on an iPod, and some can be burned to CD.) To use the collection:
