Role of Friends vs. Role of Foundation
The purpose of a library foundation is to receive money, particularly large sums, charitable trusts, and bequests. The money is invested, and the proceeds go to the library each year. A foundation usually does not have a large membership, but everyone on the board should be committed to fundraising to the point of making regular contributions themselves.

The Friends of the Library earn money and spend it as the need arises. The foundation receives donations and invests them to provide a stable future for the library. Friends do visible and timely things with their money. The foundation normally turns the proceeds of investments over to the library, for library purposes. Together they can cooperate to help the library achieve its short-term and long-term goals.

Our Mission
The mission of the Friends of the Reading Public Library is to support the staff, and promote and augment the service goals of the RPL through programming, advocacy, and fundraising.

Gifts To The Library
The Friends of the Reading Public Library provide important funding for special library services and attractions benefiting children, young adults, adults, and senior citizens. The Friends give of their time and their money to provide the library with things it needs to operate. This includes money to buy books, CDS, videos, as well as furniture, lamps, etc.

Gifts to the Public
The Friends provide money to buy some of the passes for museums and other local attractions. They provide funds for program planning to provide educational and cultural events to the community in the fields of art, literature, and music.

Clippings From The News
The Friends are constantly in the news because of the wonderful things they do for the Town of Reading. You can read about our events in the Reading Newspapers.

Meeting Time and Place
The Friends of the RPL meet on the fourth Monday of each month at 7:30p.m. in the Library Meeting Room. Please come and join us! Bring your enthusiasm and your great ideas.

Agendas
Each Friends meeting follows a set agenda which is e-mailed to the Board members prior to the meeting.

Minutes
The minutes of each meeting are taken by the recording secretary. A copy of each meeting's minutes is sent to each Board member along with an agenda for the next meeting. The first item of business at each meeting is for the members to approve the minutes from the last meeting.
