Critters N’ Creatures Presents “For Dinosaur Lovers”

Come and meet some real live animals who have prehistoric relatives!  Learn more about them through fossils and replicas of teeth and claws.

Our wildlife educator Mona will bring a number of animals including a Blue Uromastyn Lizard, Curly-feathered Chicken, Alligator, Egyptian Fruit Bat, Tortoise, Armadillo, Ball Python and Tarantula.  See replicas of a T-Rex tooth, Giant Ground Sloth claw AND…don’t miss the real piece of fossilized Triceratops poop!

For ages 5-10.  Free. No registration necessary.  (Meeting Room)

Mardi Gras Pajama Storytime

Wear your PJs, bring along your stuffed animal and come celebrate at our Mardi Gras Pajama Storytime!  Enjoy some great stories and music with the librarian and mascot Cocoa Moose.  Get a mask to decorate so you can celebrate Mardi Gras in style.
For children aged 4-7.  No registration necessary.  (Meeting Room)

Calling all Chess Fans!

3:00-4:00 p.m.

Do you want to learn how to play chess?  Are you a bit rusty, and need a refresher?  Or are you a seasoned player looking for playing partners?  Whatever description fits you, this chess program is for you.  We will have tables set up for players of all abilities, plus High School and Middle School volunteers ready to teach chess beginners of all ages.  (Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult.)  Chess sets will be provided.

Drop-in Storytime for 2-4 year olds

Drop-in for stories, songs and fingerplays with the librarian and Cocoa Moose!  For children ages 2-4 and their caregiver.  This storytime will be held every Monday at 9:30 in the winter/spring.  See a list of upcoming dates.

Owl Prowl

Do you know that owls live in Reading?  Some are big, others small.  Come learn about them and bundle up to go on an Owl Prowl to find one!  Dave Williams, Reading bird enthusiast, will lead our Prowl and then we will return to the Mattera Cabin to cozy up for an owl story and hot cocoa.

This program is for children in Grade 2 and up with an adult. One adult for every 3 children. Registration required, space is limited – sign up begins on Friday January 27th. Register online or by calling the Children’s Room at 781-942-6705.  Reading residents given preference.
