Geocaching – “Explore S’More”

Want to go on a hike and do a treasure hunt at the same time?  Geocaching is a great way to have some family fun outdoors.  You can visit the Geocaching website to learn all about the sport, then head outside to find our cache: “Explore S’More!”geocaching

A Brief How-To Guide:

1. Go to the Geocaching website and enter Reading’s zipcode.

2.  Look for “Explore S’More” and click on the Cache Details.

3.  Print out the information you need to find the cache.

4.  The Cache Details provides information about the size of the cache.  You may want to take a small trinket to leave in the cache.  Food is not allowed.  Examples of trinkets:  new pencil,  super-ball,  tiny toy, rubber band bracelet, etc.

5.  When you locate the cache, open it and sign the log book.  Swap trinkets if you wish.  Return the contents to the weather-proof container and place the cache back in its exact location.

6.  If you have made a geocaching account, be certain to log your visit when you return home to your computer.

A GPS is helpful for Geocaching;  however, we realize that many people do not have handheld GPS units, so you can find “Explore S’More” by following the written directions on the cache listing.

Kids who are registered in the Reading Public Library Summer Reading Program, may want to visit all three of the RPLKids Caches.  We placed “Explore S’More” in 2009, “Magic” in 2007 and “Get a Clue” in 2006.
