Join us for an inter-generational program that examines child trafficking in the cocoa industry with author Tara Sullivan, followed by a screening of an investigative documentary.
Inspired by true events happening in the West Africa today, award-winning local author Tara Sullivan exposes the ongoing use of child, forced and trafficked labor through her powerful novel Bitter Side of Sweet which Kirkus Reviews calls “a tender, harrowing story of family, friendship, and the pursuit of freedom.”
Then keep the conversation going with a screening of The Dark Side of Chocolate in which journalists investigate child trafficking in the Ivory Coast and show how it fuels the worldwide chocolate industry.
Slave-free chocolate from Equal Exchange and popcorn will be served. Book sale & signing to follow. For teens and adults.
