Database of the Month: Newspapers

Here’s a request we often get at the Information Desk, “I need an article about (fill in the blank) from the Boston Globe.  It was in the paper sometime in the last few years.”   We also get many students looking to access the Boston Globe for everything from National History Day topics to what was in the local news on the day they were born.

We love this type of request because it lets us explain that anyone in Massachusetts may access full text Boston Globe articles back to 1980.    It’s free through the library; try it through the Boston Globe site and you’ll have to pay a fee.

The link to our free access newspaper database is on the left side of our Research and Learning page.   You’ll find access to the Boston Globe, Boston Herald and a variety of other newspapers.  Try it from home and you’ll just need to add your library card number and last name.  Happy searching.
