Teen Origami & Scrapbooking: Drop-in!

Come try your hand at making Origami Jungle Animals – it’s cool it’s fun and we provide the supplies!  If origami isn’t your paper craft of choice, scrapbookers can bring your own photos, albums and scrapbooks to take advantage of our outrageous supply of papers, punches, stamps and embellishments.   Make your memories into lasting keepsakes.  The library will supply the materials and inspirational / how-to books and videos.

Teen Event: Pops & Rocks

6:00-8:00 PM

Teens and Tweens are invited to an evening of Cake-Pop Creations (POPS) and Wii Rock Band (ROCKS).

Cake-pops are bite-sized bits of cake atop a standard lollipop stick.  The pops are dipped in melted chocolate, then decorated with assorted sprinkles, jimmies, frosting and more.  You are free to eat your creations at the library or bring them home to share with your family.

While at the library, you can pick up one our our two Wii guitars, sit down at the drums or try your hand with the vocals as we play Wii Rock Band (at least two different editions will be available to try).

This is a free event, drop-ins welcome for some or all of the time.  No registration necessary.

It’s A Jungle Out There: Sign up today!

Students entering grades 6-12 read books to earn prizes. You can register online and log all your reading right from the comfort of your own home (or the local coffee shop or wherever you get connected to the internet). After you read a book, just write a brief (very short, almost miniscule) book review. Each review is an automatic ticket entry into our weekly raffle and counts toward your reading goals.

The only time you need to visit the library is to collect prizes, find new books to read or come to any of our summer events.

Twilight for Teens Party

Love Twilight? Teens and ‘Tweens are invited to celebrate the release of the latest movie in the series ‘Eclipse’! Vampire trivia, music, and photo fun! Feel free to come dressed as your favorite character. Prizes will be awarded and some bloody good refreshments!

A big screen showing of the 2nd Twilight movie will start promptly at 6:30 p.m. All tweens and teens welcome! This is a free event, no registration necessary.

Visiting Teen Author: Kathleen Benner Duble

The public is invited to an evening with local author  Kathleen Benner Duble at the Reading Public Library.  Ms. Duble will be speaking about her writing experiences as an author of children and teen fiction.

Ms. Duble is the author of “Sacrifice” a gripping story of two sisters caught in the middle of the Salem Witch Trials. Set in nearby Andover, MA, the “Sacrifice” is a fictional tale based on actual events in the author’s own family history.

Other historical fiction titles by Ms. Duble include “Hearts of Iron,” set in 19th century Connecticut and “The Quest,” a recounting of Henry Hudson’s search for a passage to East Asia via the Arctic Circle.

Books will be available for purchase and signing, and refreshments will be served.

*Ms. Duble is scheduled to speak at both Parker and Coolidge Middle Schools.  This evening discussion will include different material and is open to all students, parents and readers!
