When the Black Girl Sings” is a book about passion, determination, and hope. Lahni is a black girl going to a private white school. Her parents adopted her when she was too young to remember. Everyday Lahni pulls herself out of the sticky webs spun by the Mean Girls and hides from a boy with the ski hat. At home life isn’t any better with her parents. But with the discovery of the Good Sheppard church, nestled in the heart of the town, Lahni finds a place where is right for her. At her school Lahni sings in a class, but at the church she sings from her heart and soul. Only Lahni can prove how far her voice can take her and take others.
