The Reading Public Library is guided by our Core Values, which inform our Vision and Mission.
One of our 7 Core Values is: COMMUNITY
We take pride in being Reading’s community center, and strive to create an environment that is welcoming to all.
Recently, over 100 community members of all ages came together at the library to create a unique and meaningful piece of art with our Artist-in-Residence program. An example of our core value in action, we created a Town of Reading collage that shows the love and pride we have for our town, family, and neighbors. (It is being framed and will be hung up soon!)
Today in the Studio, you can drop in to decorate a kindness rock. Place it in our library kindness rock garden, or take it home and start your own! This inclusive event was developed together with Reading Embraces Diversity (RED), Reading’s Human Relations Advisory Committee (HRAC), and the Friends of the Reading Public Library: three groups working together to create a welcoming and kind community.
Our goal is to include this value in all of our programs and classes such as the new Yum! Cookbook Club, the Cozy Project, Pints + Pages, Mother Goose Lapsits, and Girls Who Code. The Reading Public Library is where people make connections and form friendships, and it is these bonds, created and strengthened daily at the library, that help make Reading a wonderful COMMUNITY.
