Curbside Pickup Information

Reading Public Library Curbside Pickup starts Wednesday, June 24. Our curbside contactless pickup will allow you to place holds online and pick them up in the library parking lot during designated hours. You must receive a notification that an item is available for pick up, prior to scheduling your curbside pick up appointment.

If you need assistance placing holds, or reserving a pick up time, call us at 781-944-0840, Wednesday through Saturday.  (Wed, Fri, and Sat 10-4, Thurs 1-7)

Tips to help you prepare for RPL Curbside Pick Up

Requesting items

  • Place your holds through the library catalog. Only items with an Available status at Reading can be picked up at this time. You can still place holds on other items but we do not have an estimate of when those items will become available.
  • You can place holds on books, audiobooks, magazines, DVDs, and CDs. We are not currently lending Library of Things or Launchpads.

Scheduling Curbside Pickup

  • When your holds are ready to pick up. you will be notified by your preferred method (phone, email, or text).
  • Once you receive notification that your holds are ready, you will get instructions to register for a pickup time.
  • We will hold items for you for 14 calendar days from the date of your notification.
  • If you receive notifications for additional items after you have made your appointment, you do NOT need to make an additional appointment. You will receive all items that are ready for you at the time of your pickup.
  • You may pick up items for more than one patron during your appointment time. You must include this information when registering for your pickup time.

Picking Up

  • Come at your reserved pickup time (make sure you have received a confirmation via call, text, or email).
  • Wear your face covering.

Drivers

  • Park your vehicle in the space that you have reserved.
  • Do not exit your vehicle.
  • Staff will retrieve your items and place them on the table.
  • Exit your vehicle and retrieve your items when notified by library staff.
  • Check carefully for other vehicles or pedestrians before exiting the area.

Pedestrians

  • If you prefer to arrive on foot. Please stand in the designated spot on the sidewalk next to the space that you have reserved.
  • Staff will retrieve your items and place them on the table.
  • Retrieve your items when notified by library staff.
  • Please limit to one person per appointment.

Returns

  • For everyone’s safety, please only return items to the book drop. Staff cannot accept returns. The book drop will be open during all curbside pick up hours.
  • All returns will be quarantined for at least 72 hours prior to check-in. Items will remain on your account until checked in.
    Most items are already free from late fees, and none will be incurred at this time.

 

Curbside Pickup is part of our safe, phased reopening in accordance with town, state, and CDC guidance. We appreciate your continued patience as we proceed thoughtfully and safely toward a full resumption of library services.
